Child support
Basic child support is a sum to be paid by one parent to the other for the support of the parties’ child or children and is calculated based upon a percentage of income. In addition to basic child support, the parents shall each be obligated to contribute to the cost of the child’s or the children’s health insurance, unreimbursed medical expenses, child care while the parents are working, and possibly educational expenses, depending upon the means of the parties.
Parties may opt out of the application of the statutory formula, agreeing to more or less child support, depending upon the means of the parties and the non – economic contributions of the parents to the child’s or the children’s day to day lives.
